Health Protection

Why Test for Mold?

Mold often hides in places you can’t see—inside walls, under flooring, in HVAC systems, or in crawlspaces. Even if you can’t see mold, it can still be present and impacting your air quality and health.

Professional mold testing helps to:

If you or someone in your household has chronic respiratory symptoms, headaches, or allergies that worsen indoors, mold may be contributing—and testing is the best way to confirm or rule it out.

Testing Process

How Our Mold Testing Process Works

At Montana Basement Solutions, our 4-Step Discovery Process follows a detailed, science-based approach to mold detection. Our goal is to provide accurate, actionable results—not vague assumptions.

Step 1: Visual Inspection

We begin with a full visual assessment of the affected area, identifying moisture sources and microbial growth. We utilize advanced tools including Infrared FLIR Cameras, Moisture Meters, Hygrometers, and Borescopes to see what others miss.

Step 2: Advanced Sample Collection

Depending on your property’s conditions we are able to perform a variety of different types of mold/mycotoxin tests.

Based on your property’s specific conditions, we perform targeted testing, including AirSwabTape-lift, or Bulk sampling. We also offer specialized ERMI/HERTSMI and Mycotoxin screening for clients with specific health concerns.

Step 3: Accredited Lab Analysis

Samples are sent to an independent, accredited laboratory. We provide expert guidance on which sample types and quantities are necessary to identify mold types (such as Stachybotrys or Aspergillus) and determine the severity of contamination.

Step 4: Results + Action Plan

Within five business days (with fast-tracking available), we provide a comprehensive report and a phone consultation. We review your results together and recommend the specific next steps for remediation or prevention.

Once the Testing Process confirms the scope of the problem, we provide a detailed remediation estimate and plan. From there, we transition to our 5-Step Remediation Process to physically remove the hazard from your home.

Home Kits

Are DIY Home Tests Recommended?

Short answer: No

Big box stores may sell petri-dish kits that claim to detect mold, but these kits can’t provide reliable insight. Mold spores are present in every home in trace amounts—and these kits can’t differentiate between background levels and a real problem.

DIY kits fail to:

If you want real answers—not false alarms or false reassurance—professional testing is the only option.

Do I Need to Test Before Remediation?

In most cases, yes. Mold testing gives us the information we need to:

After remediation, we test again to verify that mold levels have returned to safe levels. This testing is always conducted through a third-party lab to maintain objectivity.
